Craven Arms Cricket project
The project was set up to engage with young people from different cultures and backgrounds who were at risk of having nothing constructive to do over the holiday periods and who could learn skills and gain experience in teamwork, learn about other people’s backgrounds and have fun playing cricket. This was in response to the fact that Craven Arms has such a culturally diverse population.
Highlights from this last year include coaching drills (including playing against the indoor bowling machine, first aid training, friendlies against local youth teams and visits to first class matches.
Ludlow Football project
The Football project has continued to run every week in partnership with the Foyer and the Local Police. Regular sessions have been delivered throughout the life of the project by Local Police Officer Tony Sewell.
The BUZZ bands project
The Buzz was aimed at young people aged 13+ who wanted the opportunity to either form or work on their existing live bands. The aim was to invite bands from each of the South Shropshire market towns. Four bands from Ludlow, Cleobury and Church Stretton signed up and were offered workshops including recording, rehearsal, band image and presentation. Bands were selected following a successful application form being submitted. The delivery was done in the mobile ‘Buzz’ studio, a Ludlow based project that would go to these bands and deliver 3 hour workshops at a time over the school summer holidays. The bands were then invited to play at an organised gig in Ludlow with a ‘recognised’ / established band. The gig was attended by around 100 paying people.
Another gig was organised on Boxing Day 2006 and involved 2 of the bands featured earlier in the project.
