UNZIPPED Peer Led Consultation programme

UNZIPPED will take place in both the first and final years of the Community volunteer programme. To start the project SSYF will train a group of young people to consult with their peers in order to find out what needs and concerns young people have within their community.

A similar piece of consultation was done in 1999 and young people were trained in PRA (Participatory Rural Appraisal) techniques. The project was a huge success, the end result; a substancial and true to life account of the issues facing young people in South Shropshire.

The recruited volunteers will also have the opportunity to work towards a recognised qualification through other key partners.

The group will be responsible for the collection, input and analysis of data that they collect from consulting with other young people. The resulting report will be used to inform local policy makers, the Youth Forum and other organisations of potential developments in its work and help to identify the direction of future service provision.

The previous report is now largely out of date and we need to re-consult with the next generation of young people to identify issues and areas of need for young people. Individuals who are involved in this project will have developed the capacity to champion young people's issues throughout the district through Youth Council's etc.
