SSYF Broadplace facilitated by
Switch on Shropshire

Switch on Shropshire, a £4.79 million project, aimed at providing broadband access to businesses and the community of Shropshire, delivered via a network of 35 community IT facilities know as Broadplaces.

Shropshire Broadplaces are situated in rural locations throughout Shropshire. They offer community access to ICT facilities, locations for delivering services as well as training and meeting facilities for businesses.

The South Shropshire Youth Forum office is a fully operational Broadplace centre that offers the free use of the internet and access to the Broadplace equipment including laptops, cameras and other IT equipment.

The Broadplaces are there for everyone, whatever their age, ability or interest. The informal nature of drop in sessions has made them very popular with those new to IT and the community focus has encouraged new groups such as Family History and Digital Photography Clubs to flourish. For young people who don't have access to broadband at home, a number of Broadplaces run homework clubs after school.
